How To Get A Credit Card
Banks and financial institutions issue credit cards. You do not have to be a customer of a bank to make an application for a card. If you have a good credit rating then a lot of the time these banks will approach you to take one of their credit cards. Applying for a credit card is a simple process. The application process begins with filling in an application form. The form will ask for your basic details such as your name, address and employment details. This application can be done through the post or online.
When you fill in the application form it will ask for your permission to do a credit check on you. When the credit card company gets the application card back they will submit your details to an independent credit agency that will hold your information such as your debt history, previous payments and other information. All this information gets assessed and a credit ‘score’ is given. This credit score is then sent back to the bank. The bank that issues the credit card will have a set minimum credit score to be approved for your credit card. As long as your credit score meets the minimum requirement of the credit card company and the rest of your details are approved then your application will be approved. The credit card company will then decide on a credit limit to have on your card.
Once this is all completed they will produce the card and send it to you. The card will usually be sent in an inactive state that prevents the card being misused if it is intercepted in any way. When you receive the card you will need to call the credit card company to make the card active and then you are able to use it.
